Where Can You Go from Millbrae Station? Easy Bay Area Day Trips from The Dylan Hotel

One of the best things about staying at The Dylan Hotel at SFO is that you don't need a car to explore the Bay Area.

The Millbrae BART and Caltrain Station is just a 3-minute walk from The Dylan, giving our guests convenient access to San Francisco, Burlingame, San Mateo, Palo Alto, San Jose, San Francisco International Airport and destinations throughout the Bay Area.

Whether you have a few hours between flights or an entire day to explore, here are some of our favorite places you can visit from Millbrae Station.

Head North: Explore San Francisco

Downtown San Francisco & Union Square

Take: BART
Get off:
Powell Street

Powell Street puts you in the middle of downtown San Francisco. From here, you can easily explore:

  • Union Square
  • Cable cars
  • Chinatown

  • San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)

It's an easy way to spend a half or full day in San Francisco without worrying about traffic or parking.

The Ferry Building & Embarcadero

Get off:
Embarcadero

The historic Ferry Building is one of our favorite San Francisco destinations for food lovers. Browse local food shops and restaurants, then walk along the waterfront for views of the Bay Bridge.

From the Embarcadero you can also continue along the waterfront toward Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf.

Oracle Park

Take: Caltrain

San Francisco

Going to a Giants game?

Caltrain is one of the easiest ways to get there. The San Francisco Caltrain station at 4th & King is just a short walk from Oracle Park.

Skip San Francisco traffic and expensive event parking—walk from The Dylan to Caltrain and enjoy the ride.

Chase Center

San Francisco

Heading to a Warriors game, concert or event at Chase Center? Caltrain takes you to San Francisco's 4th & King station, where you can connect with local transit or continue toward Mission Bay.

Explore the Peninsula

Caltrain runs directly through many of the Peninsula's most popular downtowns, making Millbrae an excellent home base for exploring beyond San Francisco.

Burlingame Avenue

Take: Caltrain
Get off:
Burlingame

Spend a few hours exploring charming Burlingame Avenue, filled with restaurants, cafés, boutiques and shops.

It's also only a few minutes from The Dylan by train, making it an easy choice for lunch, dinner or an afternoon of shopping.

Downtown San Mateo

Take: Caltrain
Get off:
San Mateo

Downtown San Mateo has become one of the Peninsula's best dining destinations, with an impressive collection of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Mediterranean, Italian and California restaurants.

The downtown district begins right outside the Caltrain station, so there's no need for a car once you arrive.

Downtown Redwood City

Take: Caltrain
Get off:
Redwood City

Step off Caltrain and you're right in downtown Redwood City.

Explore restaurants, cafés, shops and Courthouse Square, which frequently hosts community events, concerts and outdoor activities.

Visit Stanford & Palo Alto

Downtown Palo Alto

Palo Alto

University Avenue begins near the station and offers restaurants, cafés and shopping.

Stanford University

From Palo Alto Station, continue to the Stanford campus by local transportation or rideshare.

It's an excellent half-day or full-day trip from Millbrae.

Mountain View

Downtown Mountain View's Castro Street is located just steps from the station and is lined with restaurants and cafés.

Mountain View is also a useful transportation connection for other South Bay destinations.

San Jose

Downtown San Jose

San Jose Diridon

Caltrain provides direct service from Millbrae south to San Jose Diridon Station.

Once there, explore downtown San Jose attractions including:

  • SAP Center
  • San Pedro Square Market
  • The Tech Interactive
  • Downtown restaurants and nightlife

It's an easy way to experience Silicon Valley while leaving your car behind.

Levi's Stadium

Heading to a 49ers game, concert or major event at Levi's Stadium?

From Millbrae, take Caltrain south to Mountain View, then connect to VTA light rail for Levi's Stadium.

This route is especially convenient during large events when traffic and parking around Santa Clara can be challenging.

Going to SFO?

Millbrae Station also provides a convenient connection to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) via BART.

The Dylan is located approximately 1½ miles south of SFO, making our location convenient for travelers who want to stay near the airport without giving up easy access to San Francisco and the rest of the Peninsula.

One Station, Two Rail Systems, Countless Places to Explore

Millbrae is unique because BART and Caltrain meet at the same station.

Think of the two systems this way:

BART → San Francisco, downtown attractions and SFO

Caltrain → San Francisco, Burlingame, San Mateo, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain View and San Jose

That makes The Dylan an especially convenient place to stay if your Bay Area trip includes more than just San Francisco.

Stay Near SFO—and Explore the Bay Area Without a Car

At The Dylan Hotel at SFO, you're just a 3-minute walk from Millbrae BART and Caltrain, approximately 1½ miles south of San Francisco International Airport, and within walking distance of restaurants, cafés and everyday conveniences.

Spend the morning exploring San Francisco, have dinner in Burlingame, visit Stanford, catch a Giants game at Oracle Park or head south to San Jose—all without getting behind the wheel.
